Delta Blocks: Optimize backups & restores

Regardless of your connection speed, nightly backups and file restores typically take just minutes using our patented Delta Block Incremental technology that transfers only changes within the files you have changed that day.

Duplicate File Recognition

Duplicate File Recognition: Save time & space

In addition, our patented Duplicate File Recognition (DFR) technology prevents duplicate files from being transferred and stored. So if you have identical files saved in multiple locations -- such as an email attachment in your inbox and in a folder on your hard drive -- you avoid spending network time and backup space to store it each time. It also recognizes common program and Windows system files stored at our data center to optimize your initial backups.

Data Transfer Rates

Initial Backup Data Transfer Rates

Your first backup transfers all your selected data to our data centers. Subsequent backups take a fraction of the time as they transfer only daily changes. For the larger plans or slower connections, we suggest letting the initial backup run over the weekend. You can also stop the backup at any point and let it resume later where it left off.

  • These are very rough estimates and may vary by a factor of two or more depending on your ISP's actual upload speeds.
  • Our backup software compresses your data about 50% before sending it to the data center. Actual compression varies greatly by the type of file. (Zip files, video and graphics are usually already fully compressed; many text files can be compressed up to 90%.)
  • Full system backups may be faster because many common system files are already archived in our library and do not need to be duplicated.
  • Other factors may affect your transfer speeds, including your computer's operating system, processing power and memory; traffic on the your local network, your ISP and the Internet. Your actual connection speed may vary greatly and may not be as high as your ISP claims.
  • Most of the time upload speeds are considerably slower than download speeds, especially with some Internet connections such as cable modem and satellite.
