Selecting & Deselecting Files Instructions

1) Open PC Data Backups

1. Open your PC Data Backups software by selecting Start, Programs (or All Programs), PC Data Backups, PC Data Backups.
2. Once the program is open, select the Go Menu, then Backup View, Explore to pick files.

2) Explore to pick files

1. Wait for the scan to complete.

3) De/Selecting Files

1. To select or deselect a file, click on the square to the left of a file.
   • To sort files by Size, click the "Size" column header. If you are over your data limit, deselecting unnecessary files based on file size is the quickest way to get you below your limit.
   • To sort files by Type, click the "Type" column header.
2. Click the box to the left of the file in the right window. The Backup Rule Wizard dialog appears.
   • To deselect all files in the folder choose: "Don’t backup any files in this folder."
   • To deselect a single file choose: "Just this file."
   • To deselect every file of a certain type (extension) choose: "All files of this type in this folder."

4) De/Selecting Folders

1. To select or deselect a folder, click on the square to the left of a folder. The Backup Rule Wizard dialog appears.
   • To deselect all files in the folder choose: "Don’t backup any files in this folder."
   • To deselect every file of a certain type (extension) choose: "All files of this type in this folder."
   • To reset all backup rules in the folder, choose: "Delete all backup rules in this folder."

5) De/Selecting Drives

1. You can also select or deselect entire drives (partitioned & external) connected to the computer you are backing up, almost like it is another folder.
2. Click on a drive letter in the left column.
3. In the right column, click the box to the left of the drive letter. The Backup Rule Wizard dialog appears.
   • To deselect all files in the drive choose: "Don’t backup any files in this folder."
   • To deselect every file of a certain type (extension) choose: "All files of this type in this folder."
   • To reset all backup rules in the drive, choose: "Delete all backup rules in this folder."

6) Total Selection

1. As you de/select files, your total selection will change on the third line in the left column.
2. Files you have deselected will remain available for retrieval (in the Retrieve View tab choose Retrieve Options, Show all versions of all files) until 10 new backups occur, or up to 90 days, whichever comes first, but will no longer count against your backup limit.
