What power management settings should I use for my laptop to enable automatic backups?

Some laptops default to a power management mode that puts the computer to sleep after a certain amount time in which there was no user activity. Unfortunately this means that during an extended backup the computer may suspend operation because it does not detect any keyboard or mouse activity. (File transmission does not count as activity.)

To prevent laptop computers from going to sleep, the user must disable power management. Typically, in the Control Panel, there is a Power Options icon. Select this icon and choose the option to disable the power management feature.
