How can I run an automatic backup and have my computer shut down when the backup is finished?
It is possible to do this with Windows Task Scheduler.
- To use Windows Task Scheduler, you need to be logged on as an Administrator or a member of the
Administrators group.
- Click >Start >Programs >Accessories >System Tools >Scheduled Tasks. (With some versions of Windows, it will also be available in your Control Panel.)
- Double click Add Scheduled Task. This will open the Scheduled Task Wizard.
- Click Next, then scroll to PC Data Backups, highlight it and click Next.
- Select the days you want to perform this task (Ex. daily), then click Next.
- Enter the time you want the task performed (Ex. 8:00 PM), then click Next.
- Enter the user name and password of an Administrator for that machine, and then click Next.
- Add a Check to "Open advanced properties for this task when I click Finish.",
then click Finish.
- Type the following line of code into the "RUN" box after the command line: -be1
" –be1"
Example: C:\PROGRA~1\REMOTE~1\COBackup.exe –be1 (*Where "C:" is your primary
Hard Drive)
(**If the above command line does not open PC Data Backups
& start a backup operation,
try this one: "C:\Program Files\PC Data Backups\COBackup.exe"
–be1 (Include the quotation marks)
- Click on the "settings" tab and change the "stop the task if it runs for more than" to 23 hours or
less. (Set this time to allow room to complete your normal backups.)
- Click Apply, then enter your password and confirm it (enter it a second time.) Click OK.
Important Reminder: Turn off any backups you may have scheduled within the PC Data
Backups agent itself. To do so, open PC Data Backups>Options >Backup Schedule. Remove the check from: "Back up
automatically on selected days at scheduled time". Also, if you choose to use this method, do not leave PC Data Backups
software open in the task bar & do not place a shortcut to PC Data Backups in your startup folder (As described in the
second method below.)
Monitor your automatic backups for a few days after you have set up this task. Contact RDB support if you have any questions or
problems.
