How do I backup (and restore) Outlook Express?

The short answer on how to backup Outlook Express is:

Make sure you have a full system backup with PC Data Backups; which is available in either our 10GB or 30 GB plans.

If you do not have a full system backup, you will need to be sure the proper data is selected.  The critical files are those with filename extension ending .dbx and .wab!

To backup Outlook Express data
  • Select e-mail mail files for backup (the files will end in .dbx)
  • Select the Address Book file for backup (a file ending in .wab)
You may also want to:
  • Export the mail account to a file and back it up.
  • Export the news account to a file and back it up.
Then to restore Outlook Express data:
  • Import messages from the backup
  • Import the Address Book file
  • Import the mail account file
  • Import the news account file
