My Outlook PST file failed to restore, what should I do?

  • First make sure that you have the same version of Outlook installed on this computer as when you first did the backup.  If you have moved your PC Data Backups to another computer, you should install and configure Outlook the same on the new computer as it was previously (When the data was backed up.)
  • Try to restore a different version of your PST files and see if it is successful.

If this works then the PST file may have been corrupted.

  • If the above steps do not resolve your issue, you may need to update your CBMail_Mapi.dll file:
    1. Close PC Data Backups software.
    2. Find the file: “C:\Program Files\PC Data Backups\CBMail_Mapi.dll”
    3. Rename it to: “CBMail_Mapi.old”
    4. Download the new "CBMail_Mapi.zip" file and unzip it.

(Alternatively you may download the un-zipped file: "CBMail_Mapi.dll"
    5. Place a copy of the new “CBMail_Mapi.dll” to your C:\Program Files\PC Data Backups folder.
    6. Reboot your computer.
    7. Try to retrieve your PST file again.
    8. Please send an e-mail to support@pcdatabackups.com letting us know you have installed this file, and whether or not this resolved your issue.
