Which files are NOT selected for backup by default?

By default, some files are not selected for backup:
  • Temporary files like recycle bin, hibernation, swap and page files, Internet cache
  • Multimedia including mp3s, .wmv and .wav
  • Files with no extensions
  • Excluded file types include:.avi, .bak, .bkf, .bsc, .chk, .chw, .dbg, .exp, ex~, .ftg, .fts, .gid, .hfv, .idb, .ilk, .moz, .mp3, .mpeg, .mpg, .obj, .ost, .pch, .pqi, .qic, .swp, .tmp, pagefile.sys

You can include or exclude specific files or folders by clicking on the box next to the file. A green check mark indicates the file will be included in the backup. A red x indicates the file will be excluded.

You can also include or exclude specific file types by extension. Click the Options menu, move to Advanced Backup Rules and click File Types. Click on the file type to select it, then click the Include or Exclude button.

If you are running a full system backup, all except temporary files will be backed up.
